On the whole, Ralph Mouse lives happily in room 215 at the Mountain View Inn. From time to time, though, he gets a little lonely.

There was the older generation of mice, who worried about safety and being able to scrounge enough crumbs ... Then there was the younger generation of silly little mice, who were always busy wiggling, climbing all over one another, and gobbling up crumbs. Nobody understood Ralph ...

And this is why Ralph comes to make friends with some of the children who stay at the Mountain View Inn. Not every child can understand Ralph. "Those who could were lonely children who shared Ralph's interest in fast cars and motorcycles and who took the trouble to listen." It is with these children that Ralph shares some of his biggest adventures!

It all begins when Ralph sees a toy motorcycle that has been left in room 215:

A motorcycle that looked as real as this one had to run. It looked too perfect with its wire spokes in its wheels and its pair of shiny chromium exhaust pipes. The secret of making it run must be perfectly simple, if only Ralph had someone to show him what it was.

That someone is Keith Gridley, and Keith's gift of the motorcycle opens a whole new world to Ralph. With the bike he can escape from the hotel; he can experience camp; he can even go to school! But can Ralph escape the many dangers that lurk in these uncharted territories ...?
